Hip-Hip easy and strong menstrual panties

Hip-hip, of course, for women.

You can find two types of menstrual panties in the hip-hip collection, easy and strong. Let's see what the difference is between the two types, when to use which one, how they work, how to wash them and what exactly are menstrual panties?

What are menstrual panties?

A special underwear that helps you experience your period more naturally and comfortably. Menstrual panties can be compared to washable intimate pads. They are also washable and reusable menstrual products, but they are more comfortable because they do not move and you can hardly feel that there is an extra layer sewn into the panties.

Hip-hop easy , for easier days:

Our Easy model is available in two colors, black and beige. In terms of its style, it is a prettier French panties, made of thinner cotton material. There is elastic only at the waist, there is no extra elastic sewn into the thigh area, so the line of the panties is not very visible under trousers or clothes.

The easy panty was developed for lighter days of menstruation. There is a waterproof layer sewn into the seat, which is otherwise a breathable material, but does not soak through. After a while, if too much liquid gets inside, it will start to "leak out" to the side and soak through along the seam. But this does not happen from one moment to the next, so there is no reason to panic. :)

On the first day of menstruation, these panties are enough on their own. Of course, we are different, some people start with heavy bleeding right away, while others start with spotting. These panties are excellent for the latter, they can replace sanitary pads in any case, for example, they are a great addition to tampons or cups. They are comfortable to wear, and a 100% cotton layer inside comes into contact with our skin, so there is no sticky plastic feeling.
Since we didn't sew an extra absorbent layer into these panties, this won't be a solution for heavier bleeding, as it can only "hold" a smaller amount.

However, if you use tampons, this is a great additional protection against possible leakage. We can also highly recommend it in addition to a cup. I (Dóri, the designer of hip-hip) have been using a menstrual cup for a few months, which I was very afraid and worried about before, but for no reason. Now I can't even imagine going back to tampons. I think the best combination is a cup + menstrual panties. And if we look at environmental aspects, then perhaps these are the tools with which we can significantly reduce our menstrual waste.

Only buy chalices from a reliable source, we heartily recommend the website www.emilla.me , where there is a wide variety and you can also find help in choosing the chalice that suits you.

Hip-hop strong , for moderately heavy days of menstruation:

Our Strong model differs from the easy in several ways, including a slightly wider seat, a higher insert in the front and back), but most importantly, it has an extra layer of material that has antibacterial properties and excellent moisture absorption. If you don't want to use tampons, pads or cups, this is a very good alternative. However, don't expect miracles from it, and if you have very heavy bleeding, don't expect to stay dry all day. We tested it, and with a heavy (avalanche-like :) ) menstruation, it starts to "fill up" after 3-4 hours, and first of all, it leaks to the side along the seam. We are aware that changing panties during the day at work or school may not be feasible. But on an "average" day, you can confidently start out in the morning without having to change during the day. Strong panties are also ideal for a cup. For example, if you are in a place during the day where you cannot empty the cup and you will not get home until hours later, these panties will easily hold the blood leaking from the cup and you don't have to worry about getting soaked.

What about smells?

The thing is, no matter what natural alternative you choose (such as washable pads or menstrual panties), odors are much less likely to occur down there, of course, after a whole day of use, the comfort level decreases, so it's worth changing your panties after 10-12 hours, even if they're not "full" yet. On the other hand, tampons and store-bought, synthetic intimate pads can have an unpleasant odor much sooner, even within a few hours.

How to wash menstrual panties?

  • machine wash at 40 degrees (Tip: soak in cold water immediately after use, wring it out, and then put it in the washing machine). You don't have to start the washing machine right away, but this pre-soaking helps anyway. In this case, let it dry and add it to the next load of laundry, either wet or dry. If you want to wear it the next day or the third day, but don't want to machine wash it, wash it by hand, rinse it in cold water first, then it can go in approx. 40 degrees hand-warm water, with detergent.
  • Avoid traditional fabric softeners (they reduce absorbency), use essential oils or laundry perfume instead if you absolutely want a scent
  • Don't use a dryer, but you can dry it on a radiator in the winter or outside in the sun in the summer, which is known to have a disinfectant effect. ;), so you can wear it again sooner.
  • It is recommended to spin at a maximum speed of 1000. Higher speeds will destroy the material over time.
  • Do not iron, as this may melt the waterproof layer.
All materials we use are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, meaning the product does not contain any substances harmful to health, is safe and skin-friendly.

How many menstrual panties do you need?

In my experience, 3 easy + 2 strong panties can cover the entire menstrual period if you wash them more often or wash them by hand after use so that the panties used that day are dry by the next day. Of course, it also depends on the individual, how heavy the bleeding is. If you have to change the strong ones more often, you may need more of this type. But if you combine the panties with other devices, such as a cup, tampon, or use a washable pad on some days, it should be enough. Menstrual panties are just an alternative, some people won't like them, but there are also those who try them and don't understand how they could live without them. :) We are certainly very lucky that nowadays we can choose from so many types of menstrual devices.
